AstroTouch: 3D Tactile Models from FITS Data

This project provides a tool to make astronomy more accessible for the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community. It converts standard astronomical FITS images into 3D-printable STL surface relief models, translating the 2D brightness variations of celestial objects like stars and galaxies into tangible 3D height variations. Since astronomical data is overwhelmingly visual, this script bridges that accessibility gap by creating tactile representations.

ExoTransit: Generate animations of exoplanet transits with sonification

ExoTransit simulates and visualizes exoplanet transits. A key feature is the sonification of the transit light curve. The changing brightness of the star as the planet passes in front is mapped to changes in audio pitch, providing an auditory representation of the transit event. This feature aims to make the fascinating phenomenon of exoplanet transits more accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

OpenWeather: Open-source, low-cost weather station

A complete, low-cost weather monitoring solution designed specifically for astronomical observatories and remote telescope installations.

This project provides everything needed to build and deploy a professional-grade weather station at a fraction of commercial costs. Originally developed to support the ROTSE-III Namibia telescope revival project. (Still a work in progress)
